At the Ridge Theatre

At the Ridge Theatre and Kent School District announce K-8 and 9-12th grades Summer Musical Theatre Camps for the tenth year. These annual summer camps are offered in partnership between At the Ridge Theatre and the school district.

This summer the K-8 camp will be held July 26-30, from 9 AM - Noon, with a free parent show at 2 PM on July 30. Students learn acting, singing, dancing, stage tech and will be in the performance of School House Rock at the end of the week. Registration forms are available at the link above. Cost: $125 per camper.

The 9-12th grade camp will be held August 4-6 from Noon - 4 PM. We will be using material from the main stage performance of RENT, which is rated PG13. Campers will be given a special reserved seat to see RENT on Sunday, August1, at 4 PM. They wil be involved in a one-hour talk-back with the production team and cast at the end of the show. Limited to the first 36 who enroll. Registration forms are available at the link above. Cost: $100 per camper.

Check out Auburn's Art With Artists classes to learn individual artists' processes, techniques, and inspiration while also learning the basic skills of the medium. Artist instructors will provide examples of their own work and lead participants to create their own artwork. No previous experience is needed.

The Moshier Community Art Center, 430 S 156th, is one of Puget Sound's hidden gems. Located in Burien, the art center provides a fully equipped ceramics studio for students from beginner to advanced skill levels. Each session we offer art classes for all ages including classes in ceramics, painting, drawing, mosaics, book arts, sculpture and more! Also available are 24-hour access studio spaces for ceramic artists and art classes for adults and teens with disabilities. 206-988-3700.

And now the Center is offering special lantern-making classes in preparation for the Burien Arts-A-Glow Festival, which will be held on September 18.
• Star Lantern Making Class - Two-session class, 8/31 and 9/7, 6-9 PM; Ages 15-adult; $40
Create a laminated star lantern that will shine through the night. During this two-part workshop, students will create star-shaped lanterns in all sizes from paper and bamboo slats. These stars will be featured in an Arts-A-Glow installation at the Burien Town Center Park on 9/18. Everyone will keep the lanterns they make. Instructor - Denise Henrikson.
• Batik Lantern Making Class - Two-session class, 9/2 and 9/9, 6-8 PM; Ages 15-adult; $45
Create a lantern reminiscent of stained glass, but lightweight and easy to carry. In the first class, decorate and design your fabric lantern using wax lines and paint. In the second class, iron out the wax and assemble your lantern. Instructor - Denise Henrikson.
• Globe Lantern Making Class - 9/4, 10 AM - Noon OR 9/8, 6-8 PM; children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult.; $20
These lanterns are as simple and fun to make as they are beautiful. Use a balloon to form the globe shape with paper, then add color and details with final layer. Instructor - Denise Henrikson.

Federal Way Symphony

Summer music camp for musicians gardes 5-12 offers a fun week of jazz training with professional Federal Way Symphony musicians Todd Zimberg and Lonnie Mardis, a master class with Maestro A. Brian Davenport, and opportunities to improve technique and performance abilities. Takes place July 13- 17, 10 AM - 4 PM, at Federal Way High School Band room, with showcase performance on July 18 at 11 AM. Tuition is $250 for the week, with scholarships available. Greater Kent Historical Society

Sign up for the next Little Explorers Club session at the Kent Historical Museum (meeting at 10:30 AM the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month). Pre-registration is required for the program, aimed at ages 3-Kindergarten. Provides foundational social studies/history learning through stories, activities, and games. Quarterly fee $10. Heavier Than Air Family Theatre

Registration for the popular Summer 2010 Heavier Than Air Summer Stock Theatre Camp is now open. Summer camp offers a unique opportunity for children ages 3-17 to participate in a hands-on theater experience through rehearsals and performances. Under the direction of HTA's theater staff, students learn about auditioning, vocal projection, movement, improvisation, acting, dancing and singing. All camps meet in the Performing Arts Building on the campus of Green River Commnity College, 12401 SE 320th Street, Auburn. Camp begins Monday, June 28 and operates Monday through Thursday for five weeks. Camp culminates with performances including lights, costumes and makeup, July 29 through August 1. •For adults, the Valley View Writers Group meets the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7 PM at the Valley View Library.

KCLS also sponsors Manga and Anime Clubs for grades 6-12 at the following locations:

Many of the musicians in the Symphony teach privately and we are happy to provide referrals. Also, Music Director David Waltman is available by appointment for workshops. Specializations include coaching ensembles of any combination of orchestral instruments, with expertise particularly in late classical period through 20th century (Beethoven to the present). Maestro Waltman prefers working with quartets through large ensembles.

Music, dance, costumes and lighting - our productions are vrey exciting! But before we get to that big day, ther is a journey that takes place. This journey begins with a grop of i ndividuals who don't know each other. Through the workshop they make friends, find common interests, identify with others, and feel a sense of belonging. We are here to support each other and to create magic onstage.
Raffi Taffi - ages 4-7 - July 5-16, M-F, 9:30-11 AM - $125
This mini-musical is about a group of friends who have a slumber party. They sing about everything from what's in he bay, to what to do when stuff is stuck in your teeth. This fun show, which includes great dance routines, creates a fantastic free performance on the last day of class. Class price includes show T-shirt. Register early to avoid cancellation.
What D'Ya Wanna Do? - ages 4-7 - July 19-30, M-F, 9:30-11 AM - $125
In this mini-musical, you will learn goofy songs that keep your silly meter reading over the top! Add some dance to it and we will have one amazing (and free) performance on the last day of class. Class price includes show T-shirt. Register early to avoid cancellation.
The Big Bad Musical - ages 8-12 - July 5-30, M-F, 9 AM-Noon - $325
A courtroom has never been more lively and fun than in The Big Bad Musical. The jury - our audience - must decide the outcome of the biggest trial ever in the fairy-tale world! The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by storybooks of quirky characters who want to get even. Performances July 30-31 (7:30 PM) and August 1 (2 PM). Class price includes show T-shirt.
Fiddler on the Roof - ages 13-19 - July 5-August 6, M-F, 1-4 PM, $325
Set in 1905, Fiddler on the Roof takes place in Anatevka, a small Jewish village in Russia. The story revolves around the diaryman Tevye and his attempts to preserve his family's traditions in the face of a canging world. When his eldest daughter, Tzeitel, begs him to let her marry a poor tailor rather than the middle-aged butcher that he has already chosen for her, Tevye must choose between his own daughter's happiness and those beloved traditions that keep the outside world at bay. Meanwhile, there are other forces at work in Anatevka, dangerous forces which threaten to destroy the very life he is trying to preserve. Performances August 6 & 7 (7:30 PM), August 8 (2 PM), August 13 & 14 (7:30 PM) and August 15 (2 PM). Class price includes T-shirt.
Cabaret Class - Ages 20+ or by special permission - July 5-August 6, M,W,Th, 4-5 PM - $150
The genre of cabaret will be studied with recorded examples from professional cabaret artists such as Julie Gold, John Wallowich, Ann Hampton Callaway, and others. Learn how to banter between songs and include your audience in your performance. A group performance will culminate at the end of the course. Performances August 8 & 15 (2 PM).


White River Valley Museum

White River Valley Museum is working with the City of Auburn to restore Mary Olson Farm, the most intact 1880s family farm in King County. The farm is a King County Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places. Features include an 1897 barn, a 1902 farmhouse, a century-old orchard, and two salmon runs in Olson Creek.
